Serving my community through leadership, peace, and community building makes me feel something better than happiness. My work and personal experience have given me invaluable trench-level knowledge and insight that can revolutionize public service and civic involvement. With the knowledge that there are endless possibilities, I have demonstrated success within our local community by addressing our most pressing issues with imaginative solutions that bring together diverse people. I stand for integrity, authenticity, accountability, wellbeing, abundance, and love. I expect you to hold me responsible for upholding those principles. There are only two things for me: love and fear. Choosing love is a choice. Even when I don’t like things at times. To me, love encompasses much more than loving your family and friends. It’s a series of daily choices I make because all of you are important to me, as is our precious home we call Earth. I give you my word that I will let these principles direct both my personal conduct and my leadership decisions as I work to foster unity in the belief that "United We Stand."
Katherine Orlowski Background
As a member of the Whatcom County Council’s Child and Family Well-being Task Force, I am working to ensure that the needs of families are a top priority for the Council. Having experienced the challenges of being a parent myself, I am passionate about advocating for policies that support our local families, community well-being, and help them thrive. As a locally recognized Peace Builder Award recipient through the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center, I value community well-being, abundance, and love (peace and unity). I firmly believe we can unite and thrive through accountability for everyone's unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These are the same values that guide my work on the task force and that will guide me as I serve you on the council. Previously, I served on a Bellingham Food Bank Community Board, and I have participated in efforts to strengthen our food systems. As an advocate and member of the board of Homes NOW, I gained leadership experience working with the community to develop social and human service supports and housing. As a conservationist, I care about environmental issues and the preservation of natural resources, especially our agricultural lands. Through my service on various boards and my work as a civic leader, I have successfully advocated for peacebuilding and united our community. As an innovative business leader, I have had the opportunity to lead and build the working community, infrastructure, and systems. For over 30 years, I have been known for my integrity, authenticity, collaboration, and pioneering leadership. My community-building has been demonstrated through my involvement with a number of community and professional organizations. such as the government, food systems, housing, health and human services, transportation, and finally the financial industry, to advance that individual community forward with their best interests at heart.
